Some happy business is taking me to New York City Thursday through Sunday. I'm coming from Tucson, though, so to me it'll be freaking cold and I'm looking for indoor activities. Can anyone suggest any good vegan or vegetarian restaurants, astounding modern art museums (famous or obscure), Off-Broadway or Off-Off-Broadway shows worth seeing, or anything fun I haven't thought of, whether off the beaten track or on it?

In 1990 (as a non-USAnian) I visited Manhattan. At that time, SOHO was the new "up-and-coming" area: money moving in, interesting shops, galleries, bars, restaurants. What's the hot-spot now? And what's SOHO like now?

I'll be in New York, staying in a subletted West Village apartment, from Dec. 27 to Jan 6. Although I have plenty of friends who I can hang out at night, most will be working during the day.
I'm looking for either some possibilities to keep busy during the day... these include finding other travelers to go to some more obscure sights, short term volunteering, info about watching taped shows, etc. If anyone has suggestions, or places I can look for activities, events, people, that'd be great. I just don't want to waste my time there. Thanks!

So I left NYC in 2000, right around the time Coney closed. Used to go there about every week, as great bands came through all the time.
Here I am, going back for the first time in years. What's happening between 12/9 and 12/13? Anybody playing? Where are the new record stores? Is see/hear still open?

My girlfriend and I are visiting New York City on New Years Eve and want to have a memorable night. We preferably don't want to spend more than $200 each and would like something suitable for young professionals, not getting too drunk, not too loud (!) and comes with a seat!

Help us in our first NYC tour this weekend (Sat-to-Mon). What's the best vantage point/time to see the marathon? Apart from MoMa any other must see museum? Good middle eastern (Iranian/Persian/Afghani even Greek - falafel, khobedu et al) places to eat. A good jazz/R&B show and some more misc. questions

Where should the SO and I spend New Year's Eve in NYC? I'm taking her there as a present for her 30th and we want to spend the 31st somewhere suitably great. (Searching shows New Year in New York to be a venerable AskMe subject, but we have quite specific requirements and are looking for specific recommendations.)

OK.. so I am taking my boyfriend to NYC for the day. He went about 20 years ago with a friend that brought him to peep shows and he basically got mugged, etc.
He hated it and hasnt been back. Help me make him like the city!

I will spend a week on NYC in October, it will be my second time there. Now that I have seen the major tourist attractions, I am looking for alternative things to do. Do you know something about interesting workshops where I can register?

My girlfriend and I are headed to New York City this Thursday through Sunday. It looks like it is crazy hot there right now, and also looks like a good chance of rain on Thursday and Friday. Help us avoid letting the weather spoil our weekend getaway. We are staying at the Hudson. We would love to walk around but we also don't want to run ourselves ragged in the heat / rain. What would be a good itinerary for Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Keep us cool. Keep us dry. Keep us happy.

What NYC Neighborhoods Do I Need to Visit?
I'm a big solo-walking-around-random-neighborhoods kind of guy. I'm taking my 4th trip to NYC in a year, and would like to keep it varied. Where should I go? I'm huge on walking around, something interesting, you know, the you-can't-really-get-it-anywhere-other-than-NYC place. Any interesting/cheap food (quick/takeout) places in those areas? I have already visited...

My parents are visiting me the first week in August, but I just found out that I need to briefly interrupt their visit to attend a meeting in New York. My dad has never been to NYC and I'll have some down time, so I'm thinking about taking him with me. Help me plan a fun two day visit for him.

Need a good place to watch the NYC 4th of july fireworks show from.
Being a native new yorker I should really know the answer to this question but its been such a long time since Ive done it properly that I need an inside tip from other new yorkers.
Where's a great place to watch the 4th of july fireworks show on the east river? Last year I tried 34th street in manhattan which turned out to be a bad idea. Crowded as hell, not such a great view. I think unless you know someone who has rooftop access, most places in the city suck.
I'm thinking Long Island City would be a good bet though. We're prepared to show up early.. that long pier that juts out from those new high-rise buildings in LIC would be perfect.. but i'm worried its too good to be true...does anyone know whether or not the police restrict access to it?
Any other recomendations? How early should I show up?
Thanks!

NYCfilter: I'm heading up to the Big Apple this weekend as I got a free plane ticket for my birthday and was looking for a few different things to do since I've been there a few times before. I'm interested in finding out about three things: a unique dining experience, something to do on the 4th, and a great jazz club.

I'll be arriving at Penn Station in NYC about 4 hours prior to an appointment about a mile away on 66th street.
What would you do if you had 4 hours to kill in that area?
If the weather continues to suck, suggestions for a coffee shop with free wifi?

Fall foliage! I'm going to be in NYC next week, and I'm hoping to escape the city for a couple of days to see the leaves. Any recommendations for good places to hike in the forest, eat a good dinner, and stay overnight, 2 hours or less from New York?

Will be visiting New York City for three days in September. I'll be working but am bringing along my wife and five year old granddaughter. What would be good (fun) activities to keep them (esp the granddaughter) occupied. Will be staying near central park area.
